Karim Benzema is Real Madrid's most effective weapon when it comes to breaking down opposition's defences. He has opened the scoring for Los Blancos five times this season. Only twice this campaign, in the first two games in which he found the net, against Betis and Espanyol, has a goal from the Frenchman not opened the scoring for Los Blancos. Since then, every single Karim goal has broken the deadlock. That is what happened against Shakhtar, where his goal was followed up with a Cristiano hat-trick. It was the same story against Granada when his solitary goal sealed all three points for Benítez and co. At San Mamés, Real Madrid's 2-1 away win over Athletic Bilbao came courtesy of a Benzema brace. Unfortunately, it was not the case at the Calderón. Benzema opened the scoring, but a late Vietto equaliser saw the two teams share the points. That game was followed by an injury picked up on international duty with France and his legal problems related to the Valbuena blackmailing scandal. Getafe were Karim's latest victim. As is often the case, the Frenchman opened the scoring. The striker re-discovered his scoring boots with his second brace of the season. After Benzema, the player who has opened the scoring the most times for Los Blancos is Cristiano Ronaldo.
